WELCOME TO AFRICYCLE CANADA
Our Canadian programs are structured to help provide resources for our work in Malawi. Below you will see our main activities and how you can be involved! Africycle is a registered Canadian charity based out of Uxbridge Ontario.
Fundraising:
The work of Africycle is supported in a few simple ways that go a long way in Malawi. Please see below for areas you can donate to that help us bring needed mobility to families in Africa, as well as supporting many community needs that are of dire importance.
General Donation:
Your donation goes to help collect and ship bicycles to Malawi. Helping people gain access to a high quality affordable bicycle that will greatly improve their quality of life and supporting community initiatives in great need. General support allows us to build up local capacity with business and skills training. Providing community service.
Bicycle Shipments: $50
Your donation goes to help collect and ship bicycles to Malawi. This helps people gain access to a high quality affordable bicycle that will greatly improve their quality of life. Funds raised for bicycle shipments also help provide funding for extremely vulnerable children in Malawi.
Bicycle/Training Sponsorships: $100
Every year Africycle donated bicycles to healthcare workers, social workers, ministry workers children and many others in need of a bicycle. We use specific criteria in determining beneficiaries and are able to provide this valuable mode of transport to people really making a difference in their community. Africycle also provides training programs that equip people with tools and skills required to maintain and repair their bicycles. You can provide funding that will help isolated communities access healthcare and social assistance for $100
Education and Community Sponsorships: $60
Provide funding for school fees, feeding programs and other supplies that go directly to helping local care groups and schools support the needs of vulnerable and under-served children. Currently, these direct contributions are supporting more than 500 children with daily needs and access to education.
Bicycle Collections:
Our primary activity in Canada is collecting bicycles to be shipped to our programs in Malawi. (see what happens in Malawi) Bicycles are collected about 8 months a year throughout the Greater Toronto Area and about 2 shipments leave Canada per year.
We have a primary drop spot which accepts bicycles during open hours from Monday-Sunday in Uxbridge Ontario. Bicycles can dropped off with our good friends at Habitat for Humanity, Re-Store in Uxbridge. (Drop off location).
We accept adult mountain bikes only that should be in fair condition. We are selective as to the quality of bicycles we send to Africa and any bicycles not fit, are used for spare parts, or helping generate income locally to help cover shipping costs.
Local Donations:
Africycle is helping provide local children in Canada gain access to bikes. We believe that a bicycle can bring many benefits to the livelihood of at risk children and bicycles can provide a great outlet for them. Bicycle Sales:
As all the bikes collected are not perfectly suited for Africa, Africycle also uses donations to help generate revenue for shipping and administration by selling some of these bicycles. Africycle is able to refurbish and bring new life into road bikes and cruiser bikes which are not very well suited for Africa. With each sale, Africycle is able to generate enough funding to send 1 bicycle to Africa. If you have any other questions about how your bicycle will be used, please contact us for further details.
